There are two ways on how to replace bathtub drain stopper. Over time, the bathtub drain stopper can become molted and rusted, not good for use; and thus it is important to change it before it causes the build-up of fungus or becomes infected.
The first way is for a bathtub drain stopper without a mounted lever. This is the easiest to replace and repair. The old bathtub drain stopper will need to be unscrewed with a relevant size screw driver.
Remove the old bathtub drain stopper; then clean the area beneath it and around it with a strong industrial cleaner to ensure that all the parasites or bacteria are completely removed. Make sure that the grate is completely free of debris and any hair. Then take the new bathtub drain stopper, fix it in, screw it in tightly and then clean it out once more lightly.
The second method of replacing a bathtub drain stopper with a mounted lever is a little more complicated. The first thing to do is to take out the lever as well as the bathtub drain stopper. First, you unscrew the overflow plate at the side of the tub. Make sure you place the screws aside safely.
Then pull the overflow plate out and also the lever that connects to the stopper body. This may be hard to do and require a lot of pull. Then cut a quarter inch in the stopper with a hacksaw, it should be a quarter inch wide and deep but make sure that you do not cut into the bathtub.
Then put in a three quarter inch chisel into the notch you cut in the stopper. Hammer on the chisel in a clockwise direction and loosen the stopper to remove it. Then place a new gasket around the drain opening once you’ve removed it. Roll around the underside of the bathtub drain stopper with a strand of plumber’s putty.
Then grip the new drain stopper at the X shaped grate to grip the new bathtub drain stopper. Then place the new drain stopper into the opening whilst holding with the pliers.
Screw in the new bathtub drain stopper into the stopper body by moving the pliers clockwise. Then screw in the new overflow plate with the screws you placed safely before to cover the opening where the lever was before.
The second way of replacing is more complicated and if unsure a professional plumber should be hired to do it for the sake of safety and assurance of a quality job. This is an important thing for your plumbing and showering and thus it is important that you replace the bathtub drain stopper periodically to ensure safety and a healthy environment in your bathtub. For several different kind of bathtub drain stoppers available in the market if you feel that it is complicated and you are unable to do it, it is always better to hire a professional plumber to ensure your safety as well as the safety of your family.
